During the summer, we welcomed Edinburgh high school pupil, Marcel Zuk, to our site on the grounds of the former Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh to undertake a work experience placement.
We had approached Marcel’s school, St Thomas of Aquin’s High School, to offer the placement opportunity, in an effort to help inspire the next generation to consider a career in the construction industry and give them hands on experience.
The school is located close to The Meadows and the development, which made it the perfect school partner for our work placement scheme.
During the one-week placement, 15 year-old Marcel had the opportunity to assist the site manager and complete key health and safety training modules including working at height, fire awareness and manual handling.
Gayle O’Hear, Community Engagement Officer at The JR Group, said: “By offering work experience placements at our developments where we can, we hope to help demonstrate to the next generation how rewarding a career in construction can be.
“It gives pupils considering pursuing a career in the industry the opportunity to gain experience and find out more about how we bring modern new homes to life.
“We were delighted to welcome Marcel to our Edinburgh development which is local to the school he attends and hope it proved a valuable experience for him.”
Work is underway on 31 one- and two-bedroom apartments which are being delivered for Home in Scotland.
Twenty of the apartments will be available for social rent, while the remaining 11 apartments will be made available for mid-market rent.
The homes will include a range of green technologies, including exhaust heat pumps and benefitting from a direct link to solar panels.
