The JR Group Welcomes Local Primary School to Peebles Site for Construction and Safety Experience

The JR Group recently welcomed 30 pupils from Primary three at Kingsland Primary School in Peebles to its Caledonian Court development in the town, offering a hands-on learning experience focused on construction and site safety.

The visit, formed part of the school’s ongoing construction project and involved an engaging and informative talk by the site manager, who explained how a housing development takes shape, from initial groundwork through to completed homes, and highlighted the importance of staying safe around active construction environments.

Pupils had the opportunity to see the site in action, including a live demonstration of a forklift truck, helping to bring their classroom learning to life. The site team provided a warm welcome, ensuring the children had an enjoyable and educational experience throughout.

As part of the initiative, The JR Group also donated a range of materials and equipment to support the school’s project, including timber, spades, hard hats, high-visibility vests, and topsoil.

Each pupil also received a goodie bag, complete with Easter treats, to mark the occasion.

Gayle O’Hear, Construction Administration Manager of The JR Group commented: “We are proud to support the communities in which we work, and initiatives like this are a great way to engage with young people and inspire future generations. It’s important for us to give back locally, not only through building quality homes but by creating meaningful opportunities for learning and development.

“We hope the pupils enjoyed their visit and gained valuable insight into the construction industry and the importance of safety on site.”

Depute Head Teacher Nicki Istephan added: “Many thanks to The JR Group for a great visit, the children and staff loved it. Please pass on our thanks to everyone involved, they were great with the children, and the team have been very kind with all the donations, which we greatly appreciate.”

The school pupils paid a visit to the Caledonian Court development, which will consist of much needed affordable homes in Peebles on behalf of Eildon Housing Association.

Tweedbridge Court, which has been renamed locally as Caledonian Court to reflect the area’s rich railway history, is a new sustainable and energy efficient initiative which will include 22 newly built apartments featuring a mix of 14 three-bedroom lower colony homes and eight two-bedroom upper colony homes.

The JR Group remains committed to making a positive impact in local communities, supporting education, and fostering awareness of careers in construction.
