The JR Group has reached a major milestone in the delivery of 24 new council homes in Hamilton, with the development beginning to take shape as work progresses on the transformation of the former St Cuthbert’s Church site on Reid Street.
Delivered in partnership with South Lanarkshire Council, the development will provide a mix of one- and two-bedroom flats, alongside two-bedroom mid-terraced and end-terraced homes, helping meet local demand for high-quality, affordable housing. Scheduled for completion in early 2027, the homes have been designed to support a range of housing needs, with several properties incorporating features to enhance accessibility for older residents and those with mobility challenges.
Significant progress has been made across the site in recent weeks. Timber kit frames have been erected for the apartment block, roof works are well underway, and the terraced homes have now been fully roofed with windows installed. New footpaths have also been completed along Reid Street, marking another important step towards creating a welcoming and accessible new neighbourhood.
Alongside construction activity, The JR Group has continued its commitment to creating lasting social value by supporting community organisations across Lanarkshire.
The company recently donated equipment to Sparks Connection in Larkhall, a community café charity that helps young neurodivergent people develop confidence, independence and employability skills through barista and customer service training.
Paint and decorating supplies were also donated to the Veteran Community Hub in Craigneuk, supporting renovation works ahead of the hub’s community open day on 25 July and helping create an improved space for veterans and residents.
Gary McGregor, Managing Director of The JR Group, said: “Reaching these construction milestones is an exciting moment for everyone involved in the Reid Street development. Seeing the project continue to take shape demonstrates the excellent progress being made and brings us another step closer to delivering high-quality new homes for the local community through our ongoing partnership with South Lanarkshire Council.
“At The JR Group, we’re committed to creating a positive and lasting impact wherever we work. Delivering new homes is only one part of that commitment. We also believe in supporting the organisations and people that help communities thrive, and we’re proud to have supported both Sparks Connection and the Veteran Community Hub as they continue their fantastic work across Lanarkshire.
“As construction progresses, we’re looking forward to seeing the development transform this prominent site into a vibrant new neighbourhood that will benefit local people for many years to come.”
Once complete, the Reid Street development will breathe new life into the former church site, delivering 24 modern, energy-efficient council homes while contributing to the continued regeneration of Hamilton and expanding the supply of much-needed affordable housing across South Lanarkshire.
