The JR Group hands over 43 new Govan homes to Elderpark Housing Association

The JR Group has completed and handed over a new development of 43 energy-efficient homes at Nimmo Drive in Govan to Elderpark Housing Association, with the first residents expected to begin moving into their new homes from September.

Delivered by The JR Group on behalf of Elderpark Housing Association, the new development has transformed the former Elderpark Community Centre site, creating high-quality new social rented housing for local people and contributing to the ongoing regeneration of the area.

The project comprises a mix of one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom flats across two residential blocks. Both blocks feature lift access, while the homes have been designed with energy efficiency and sustainability in mind, including sustainable heating systems, alongside generous amenity space and internal and external cycle storage.

The development was supported by significant funding from Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government, helping to bring much-needed affordable housing to the Govan community.

Throughout the construction programme, The JR Group worked closely with a number of  project partners to deliver a range of community benefits alongside the new homes.

These included the donation of 100 Easter eggs to Florence Care Home and a further 100 Easter eggs to residents of Elderpark Housing Association, the installation of new roller shutters at Connie’s Community Centre, and a £250 donation towards the Benburb Football Camp.

The project also supported the local community through the installation of scaffolding to facilitate a community mural at Langland Road, while opportunities for school work experience with Govan High School were also explored.

The construction programme also created opportunities for local businesses, with companies from the surrounding area brought into the project’s supply chain. These included Strathclyde Demolition, based approximately six miles from the site; CTM Fabrications, around three miles away; Magnus Electrical, approximately nine miles away; and CHAPS Plumbing, around nine miles from the development.

The involvement of local businesses and suppliers helped ensure the investment in the development also delivered wider economic benefits for the surrounding area.

Gary McGregor, Managing Director at The JR Group, said: “We are delighted to have completed and handed over these 43 new homes at Nimmo Drive to Elderpark Housing Association.

“This has been a fantastic project for The JR Group and one which has allowed us to play an important role in delivering much-needed affordable housing for the Govan community. From the outset, our focus has been on delivering high-quality homes for Elderpark Housing Association while also ensuring that the project created wider benefits for the local community and economy.

“We are proud of the contribution our team, supply chain and project partners have made throughout the construction programme, from supporting local organisations and community initiatives to creating opportunities for local businesses.

“We would like to thank Elderpark Housing Association, Glasgow City Council, the Scottish Government and all of the project partners, suppliers and subcontractors who have helped us deliver this development. We look forward to seeing the new residents move in and the development become an established part of the Govan community.”

With the homes now handed over to Elderpark Housing Association, the first residents are expected to begin moving into their new properties in the coming weeks.

Gary Dalziel, CEO of Elderpark Housing Association, said: “We are thrilled to see this project, which brings 43 new social rented homes into the Govan community come to completion.   Originally an outdated community centre and industrial space, this project has been redeveloped to bring additional housing to the heart of Elderpark Housing’s community; and is crucial to meeting the significant housing needs within Govan. As a social landlord we are reliant on the assistance of Glasgow City Council, the Scottish Government, and our lenders RBS to fund new homes, and their support has been invaluable.

“We do not have inhouse expertise in building new social homes and are indebted to Trust Housing Association for acting as the development agent over the last few years on this project.

“This is the first project where we have worked with The JR Group, and we would like to thank them for their delivery of these high-quality homes which look stunning and complement the existing area.

“Most importantly we are looking forward to seeing the 43 new properties becoming homes for the new tenants as they move in over the coming weeks.”

The development was delivered by The JR Group on behalf of Elderpark Housing Association, working alongside project partners including Trust Housing Association, MAST Architects, Clyde Design Partnership, Carbon Futures and Iceni Planning.
