Construction Firm Breaks Ground on Landmark City Centre Development

The JR Group, one of Scotland’s leading building and construction firms, has broken ground on a landmark development on behalf of Glasgow West Housing Association, situated in a sought-after city location.

Work has now started on the Dover Street development in Finnieston, which includes a prime-site commercial unit, and 55 flats for social rent (including five wheelchair-accessible apartments) and is expected to take two years to complete.

Located close to Glasgow City Centre as well as the West End, the development is being built to meet the need for new, high quality housing in the area and is due to be handed over to the housing association in Spring 2023.

Craig Whyte, Commercial Director for The JR Group, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with GWHA to break ground on this project. This is a substantial development which includes much-needed homes for Glasgow, so it is great to deliver these on behalf of the housing association, with the aim of creating a vibrant place to live.”

Joe Heaney, GWHA’s Chairperson, said: “This has been a complex and challenging development project, and we are thankful for the ongoing support of the Scottish Government, Glasgow City Council and our local community, in reaching this important milestone.  There is overwhelming demand for social housing in our area, and we are excited about the significant contribution these high quality, energy efficient homes will make towards our vision of shaping thriving communities.”

The JR Group employs around 200 staff and was founded in Govan in 1995. It started as a scaffolding business and is now one of the largest building and construction firms in Scotland.  The business operates throughout Scotland and Northern England working on behalf of a number of the UK’s leading housebuilders, registered social landlords and private clients.
